The Badminton Association of India (BAI) has brought a piece of good news for all the badminton fans across the world. The grand carnival of much-awaited Premier Badminton League (PBL) has come back with new young talents and various experienced shuttlers. In the fifth edition of the glitzy tournament, star Indian shuttlers like Kidambi Srikanth, PV Sindhu, Saina Nehwal, and HS Prannoy will fight against each other under one roof in order to clinch the lustrous title of PBl 2020 in the upcoming event.
Earlier in season 4, Kidambi Srikanth-led Bengaluru Raptors successfully lifted their maiden title of PBL with a historic performance against Mumbai Rockets in the nail-biting finals. The strong southerners defeated the powerful rockets with a close margin of 4-3. Now in the forthcoming edition of the grand tournament, Raptors will play in the court as defending champions. It will be interesting to see whether the reigning champions will be able to maintain their dominance in the next season also or any other squad will emerge victorious in the high-octane event.
The upcoming season of Premier Badminton League 2020 will be played between nine strong squads. These participating teams are Hyderabad Hunter, Bengaluru Raptors, Awadhe Warriors, Mumbai Rockets, Delhi Dashers, Chennai Smashers, Ahmedabad Smash Masters, Northeastern Warriors, and Pune Aces.
The President of the Badminton Association of India, Himanta Biswa said while announcing the delightful news, “the fifth season of PBL will give badminton lovers a priceless opportunity to watch these champions live. It is not only singles but the dynamics have now changed with superb performances from the young brigade like Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty”.
The next season of PBL is scheduled to start from January 20, 2020, and the final showdown will be played on February 9th, 2020. The grand badminton tournament will be hosted in cities like Chennai, Delhi, Lucknow, and Bengaluru. However, the date and the venue of auction ceremony for PBL season five has not been announced by the badminton authorities so far. But it will be revealed soon by the Badminton Authority of India ahead of Tokyo Olympics 2020.
