Last week, Amaan Sandhu became the third Indian make student from the NBA Academy India to receive a high school scholarship in the USA.
The 18-year-old has signed with First Love Christian Academy (FLCA) – a private school in Washington, Pennsylvania. He will team up with his NBA Academy India teammate Pranav Prince.
A couple of months earlier, in August, Prince received a scholarship from FLCA.
In an interview with NBA.com, Sandhu said that teaming up with Prince could be an advantage for them.
Both of them were student-athletes in the NBA Academy India at Delhi National Capital Region (NCR) since 2018.
The duo had travelled to several parts of the world including Hungary and Atlanta (USA-NBA Academy Games) to complete in youth tournaments.
Sandhu said that he has a very good connection with Prince, who is like his younger brother.
Over a period of the last 18 months, Sandhu grabbed the attention of his coaches and global scouts.
In August 2019, he was one of the two Indian boys to be selected for the Basketball Without Borders Asia Camp in Tokyo, Japan. He was also the only boy out of three Indians to be selected for the Basketball Without Borders Global Camp during the 2020 All-Star Weekend in Chicago.
When asked about his parents’ reaction, Sandhu said that they were very proud of him. His father is a former international basketball player and his mother is a former national-level basketball player.
The 6’11” man hailing from Mohali named his “driving skills, shooting, basketball IQ and passing” as areas he needs to work on.
