As the 2020 NBA Draft approaches, we look into one of the incoming rookies.
LaMelo Ball is a is a 19-year-old, 6 feet 7 inches basketball player. The 181-pound point guard has declared himself for the upcoming NBA Draft.
LaMelo Ball didn’t have a conventional route to the NBA Draft. LaMelo began his High School at Chino Hills High School in Chino Hills, California. At Chino Hills, he won a state championship as a freshman. He shared the team with his elder brothers Lonzo Ball, now in the NBA, and LiAngelo Ball.
He signed with Prienai of the Lithuanian Basketball League along with his brother, LiAngelo. LaMelo became the youngest American to ever sign a professional basketball contract. He finished his LKL season averaging 6.5 points and 2.4 assists per game.
He returned to high school and played at the SPIRE Institute and Academy, a prep school in Geneva, Ohio. On 7th March 2019, Ball scored 41 points, including 29 first-half points to take his team to a 102-67 victory over Hillcrest Prep North at the Grind Session World Championship.
On 17th October 2019, signed a two-year contract with the Illawarra Hawks of the National Basketball League. In his 12 games with the Hawks, he averaged 17 points, 7.4 rebounds and 6.8 assists per game. He became only the fourth player in NBL history to record to consecutive triple-doubles. He was named as the NBL Rookie of the Year honours, winning the trophy over Kouat Noi by votes (49-44). He declared for the 2020 NBA Draft on 28th January. He is projected to go one of the top 3 picks in the 2020 NBA Draft.
