As the 2020 NBA Draft approaches, we look into one of the incoming rookies.
Precious Achiuwa is a 21-year-old, 6 feet 9 inches Power foraged who is going to be one of the players getting picked in this year’s draft.

Achiuwa started playing basketball in the 8th grade which is when he moved to the United States from Nigeria. He played basketball for Our Saviour Lutheran School in The Bronx, New York. For his next two years, he played at the St. Benedict’s Preparatory School in Newark, New Jersey. As a Junior, he averaged 18.5 points, 10.5 rebounds, 2.9 blocks and 2.2 steals per game. He also led his team to a 28-2 record. Precious was named to the MaxPreps Junior All-American second team.

Achiuwa transferred to a prep school, entering his senior season. He played for the Montverde Academy, a successful basketball program which has produced many basketball sensations. He led Montverde with 14 points and 7.2 rebounds per game and helped them reach the semifinals of the GEICO High School Nationals. He earned the MaxPreps All-American fifth team, USA Today All-USA Third Team and USA Today All-USA Florida first-team honours. He was also selected to participate in the McDonald’s All-American Game as well as the Nike Hoop Summit.

On 17th March 2019, Achiuwa committed to play college basketball for Memphis. In his first college match, Achiuwa scored 14 points and 8 rebounds in a 97-64 victory over South Carolina State. At the conclusion of the regular season, Precious averaged 15.8 points, 10.8 rebounds and 1.9 blocks per game. He was named the ACC Player and Freshman of the Year. He declared for the 2020 NBA Draft at the conclusion of the season.

Some analysts compare him to NBA stars like Pascal Siakam and Tobias Harris. He is projected to be a top 10 to mid-first-round pick in the 2020 NBA Draft. His defensive versatility, good handles, strength, coordination and athleticism will be an asset for any team that picks him in the draft.
