As the 2020 NBA Draft approaches, we look into one of the incoming rookies.
Vernon Carey Jr. is a 6 feet 10 inches Center who played his college basketball from Duke University.
He is one of the players to get picked in this year’s NBA Draft.
Vernon Carey player at University School of Nova Southeastern University in Florida. As a freshman, he averaged 18 points, 7 rebounds and 2 blocks per game. He bettered his stats in his sophomore season, averaging 22 points and 8 rebounds per game. He led his team to a Florida district state championship. He was also named the 2017 MaxPreps All-American honourable mention.
As a junior in high school, Carey averaged 26 points and 10.1 rebounds while leading his team to the Florida 5A state championship, and championships at the 2017 City of Palms Invitational. In his final season, he averaged 21.7 points, 9 rebounds and 1.1 blocks per game. He also was elected to play in the 2019 McDonald’s All-American Boys Game and the Jordan brand classic. On December 6th, 2018 Carey announced that he will be playing for the Duke Blue Devils.
On 12th November, Carey recorded his first double-double scoring 17 points and grabbing 10 rebounds in a 105-54 thrashing win against Central Arkansas. Scoring 20 points and 10 rebounds against Georgetown, he was named the MVP of the 2K Sports Classic tournament. At the conclusion of the regular season, Carey was named the ACC freshman of the year and was elected to the First-Team All-ACC. He finished his college career averaging 17.8 points, 8.8 rebounds and 1.6 blocks per game. He also earned National Freshman of the Year Honors from the U. S. Basketball Writers Association and the National Association of Basketball Coaches.
He then declared for the 2020 NBA Draft.
Analysts compare him to NBA star, Carlos Boozer. He is going to make a difference for whatever team that picks him in the draft. He is most likely to be a late first-round pick.
