Barcelona player Nikola Mirotic has tested positive for coronavirus ahead of their Euroleague game against Valencia Basket.
Mirotic said that he was “well and following doctors’ instructions.”
Sarunas Jasikevicius, Barcelona head coach and Darius Maskoliunas, the assistant coach also tested positive earlier this month, for Covid-19.
Mirotic has played five seasons in the NBA for Chicago Bulls, New Orleans Pelicans and Milwaukee Bucks before going to Spain for the 2019-20 season.
The player took to Twitter to announce that he is Barcelona’s latest positive Covid-19 case. The experienced forward will miss Barcelona’s upcoming matches to stay in isolation.
Nikola was drafted in the first round by Houston Rockets in the 2011 NBA Draft. He made his NBA debut in 2014. He has an All-Rookie Team and 2 NBA Rookie of the Month awards to his name. He has also won a bronze medal in the 2016 Rio Olympics.
His career highs include scoring 30 points against Portland, collecting 13 rebounds versus Golden State, 3 assists per game against Boston, Golden State, Portland and Milwaukee, 3 steals per game against Toronto, Boston and Portland.
Mirotic was only rising in the NBA when he decided to play his basketball for giant Barcelona. Some were definitely surprised by his decision. He explained that there were plenty of factors that contributed to his moving decision. The most important ones being family and missing the European style of basketball.
During his five seasons in the NBA, Mirotic averaged 12.3 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game.
