The Golden State Warriors are set to make a deal with the Oklahoma City Thunder. A deal which will land Kelly Oubre Jr. to the Golden State Warriors. The Warriors will grab Oubre into a trade deal with the exception created after dealing Andre Iguodala without taking back any salary last offseason. This means that the Warriors will not have to send back any salary to match Kelly Oubre’s in the deal.
In exchange for Oubre, The Oklahoma City Thunder will receive Golden State Warriors 2021 first-round pick, but only if the pick falls between Number 21 to number 30. If the pick doesn’t fall between 21-30, then the Warriors will send two second-round picks to the Thunder.
Kelly Oubre would presumably fill in Klay Thompson’s spot as the starting shooting guard. Klay Thompson will be out for the season recovering from a torn Achilles tendon. Oubre will join the lineup along with point guard Stephen Curry, small forward Andrew Wiggins, power forward Draymond Green and the newly drafted number 2 pick centre James Wiseman.
Kelly Oubre averaged 18.7 points, 6.4 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game during the last season for Phoenix Suns. The Warriors had the worst record in the whole league in the 2019-2020 NBA season. They had a poor record of 15 wins and 50 losses.
On the other hand, the Thunder saves the money owed to Oubre as they continue to remove veterans from their roster. With Chris Paul and Dennis Schroder gone, the Thunder will be expected to let Danilo Gallinari leave in the free agency. They will be expected to begin rebuilding around Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and the mountain of draft picks they have.
