Winning Game 6 of the Finals on Sunday night, it became Los Angeles Lakers’ 17th title to their name. Two franchises – Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Lakers – have alone won a total of 34 out of the 74 championships in NBA history.
The Celtics’ dynasty of the 1960s is considered as one of the greatest ever as they won eight straight titles and 11 total titles in 13 years (1957-1969). On the other hand, the LA Lakers’ 17 titles – including their most recent 2020 one – are evenly spaced out as they won four or more championships in a single decade, three different times.
Only three franchises have won three titles in a row – Boston Celtics (eight in a row from 1959 to 1966), Chicago Bulls (twice) and LA Lakers (twice).
