India where a sport like Basketball counts in the rare category, National Basketball Association (NBA) champion Harrison Barnes has initiated to bring popularity for the astonishing game across the country. The 26-year-old brilliant player from Sacramento Kings is all set to visit India in order to promote basketball growth in the country. The American champion will start his journey in India from Delhi-NCR where he is going to attend the Reliance Foundation junior NBA National Finals at NBA Academy India on April 28. After that the bonafide player will travel to the ‘city of dreams’ Mumbai for his television appearances at NBA wraparound shows which will be aired on Sony Ten 1 and Sony Ten 3 channels on April 30. Barnes will then return back to the capital city on May 3 in order to attend the final match of the fourth ACG-NBA Jump, National basketball talent search programme.
The NBA Jump has been considered to be the greatest basketball programme in its six years of history. This Programme by Reliance group aims to inspire the young generation of India to adapt a health lifestyle by including basketball in their daily routine and around 7900 schools are supporting this great move through integrating the sport in their physical education curriculum.
Barnes said on his upcoming visit to India, “this trip to India will be a great opportunity for me to get a sneak peek at the local culture before the upcoming pre-season games in Mumbai this October”. He also added, “I look forward to being a part of that historic event, and I’m excited to help support the NBA’s various basketball development initiatives in India”. Earlier, Barnes had won the NBA Championship in 2015 when he was playing for Golden State Warriors.
