LaMelo Ball, the 6’7” point guard, had signed a multi-year sneaker deal with Puma. The announcement came on Wednesday as the brand made the potential no. 1 pick in the NBA Draft, a notable part of its team.
Per ESPN’s Nick DePaula, Ball said that he is really excited to be joining the Puma family. He believes the brand is a perfect partner for him because they will allow him to be himself. He wants to be completely authentic, whether that’s playing basketball or showing off his personal style.
The 19-year-old joins Puma’s growing stable of NBA players, including Kyle Kuzma, R. J. Barrett, Marcus Smart, Michael Porter Jr., and Marvin Bagley III.
Brother of the New Orleans Pelicans guard Lonzo Ball, LaMelo Ball immediately becomes one of the key faces of the brand, which has made a splash in basketball, in recent years.
This is the second time Ball has had a signature shoe for his career. When he was 16, he had the “MB1”, released under his family’s Big Baller Brand.
Ball impressed in his only season in Australia’s National Basketball League (NBL), averaging 17 points, 7.5 rebounds, 7 assists and 1.7 steals while playing for the Illawarra Hawks. He went on to be named Rookie of the Year.
The 2020 NBA Draft is scheduled to take place on November 18.
