Ace all-rounder player of Indian national cricket team Vijay Shankar faced a big blow before his side’s next match against Afghanistan. The 28-year-old Indian cricketer suffered a severe injury on his toe after deadly yorker of veteran pacer Jasprit Bumrah hit him during the practice session on Wednesday. This was the third injury scare for men in blues in four 2019 World Cup matches so far.
Earlier, the explosive opener Shikhar Dhawan was ruled out from the world cup after scoring an incredible century in India’s second encounter of the season. The 33-year-old spectacular left-handed batsman injured his left thumb during his side’s enthralling clash against defending champions Australia at ‘The Oval’ stadium. The renowned southpaw was hit by a Cummins delivery on his thumb. This was later followed by another bad news for India as the brilliant pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar also suffered an injury in his left hamstring during the match against arch-rivals Pakistan. As a result, Bhuvneshwar has also been sidelined from the game for around two weeks. The right-arm medium bowler is expected to join back the squad in the match against England on June 30th at Edgbaston Stadium.
In his very first match of ICC World Cup 2019, Vijay Shankar surprised everybody and grabbed all the attention of Indian cricket fans after taking two crucial wickets of Pakistan in India’s third CWC clash. Though he didn’t get a proper chance to show his batting skills as he played only 15 balls during the innings and scored just 15 runs. However, it is not yet confirmed whether he will play the next match against Afghans or not.
Despite facing consecutive setbacks, Indian tigers are still undefeated in this year’s World Cup edition so far but such frequent dismissals of key players from the 15-men squad could create problems for the blue team in their upcoming matches. India will next lock horns with Afghanistan squad at Rose Bowl Cricket Ground on June 22nd in order to improve better in the points table and qualify for semifinals in this season also. Currently, Indian tigers are reigning at fourth position in 2019 World Cup standings along with a total of seven points.
