Ambati Rayudu is reported by the Umpires for a suspect bowling action. The Indian middle order batsman was used by skipper Virat Kohli to bowl a couple of overs in the first ODI between India and Australia. He bowled a couple of overs for 13 runs.
He was called upon to bowl because there was no Kedar Jadhav in the Indian line up for Sunday’s match. In the 46 games that Rayudu has played, he has only been used for his bowling prowess in 9 of those games. The ICC is very strict in terms of bowling actions and according to the rule, a person cannot flex his arm for more than 15 degrees.
Rayudu who plays for Hyderabad in Ranji Trophy can continue bowling in International Cricket but will have to undergo tests at an ICC centre within 15 days of being reported. There are many other players who have been reported of suspect actions in the recent past. Mohammad Hafeez and Saeed Ajmal of Pakistan, Sunil Narine from WestIndies have been reported by ICC many times in the recent past for suspect actions.
The next match of the India-Australia ODI series will be played on 15th January at Adelaide cricket ground. Kedar Jadhav is expected to make his way in the Indian line up in place of Dinesh Karthik because of the flexibility he gives the captain in terms of his bowling.
In other news Shubman Gill and Vijay Shankar have been drafted in India squad in place of suspended duo of Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul.
Shubman Gill is touted to be the next big thing in Indian cricket. He was part of the team that won the Under 19 world cup last year. He played for Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL last season.
