After a month of the Pulwama terror attack which killed 40 CRPF personnel,  Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has donated Rs 20 crore for the welfare of armed forces. BCCI is going to invite all the Indian forces’ dignitaries including Army, Navy and Air Force in the opening ceremony of Indian Premier League 2019 on March 23.

BCCI official said on the development note, “Yes, the CoA has sanctioned Rs 20 crore which will be contributed towards the Army Welfare Fund. On the opening day with both Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Virat Kohli being present, the first portion of the said amount will be handed over to one of the dignitaries”. Instead of organizing a grand and glitzy opening event CoA decided to contribute the whole amount for the welfare of armed forces. The IPL opening ceremony budget was decided Rs 15 crore earlier in the last edition but the board has increased the amount to Rs 20 crore to support National Defence Fund and Army Welfare Fund with the amount.

Earlier, Indian Cricket Team did a special gesture during the third ODI against Australians at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi. The squad paid the tribute to Indian Armed Forces by wearing special camouflage caps which had the BCCI logo engraved in it.

IPL 2019 will be commenced with the battle of MS Dhoni led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Virat Kohli led Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on March 23. The countdown for Indian Premier League 2019 has begun and the sale of tickets has also commenced.
