The Goa Cricket Association (GCA) ropes in Bengal fast bowler Ashoke Dinda for the upcoming domestic edition.
With uncertainty over commencement date of the forthcoming season, GCA secretary Vipul Phadke confirmed that Dinda and Amit Verma would be the two outstation players for Goa this season.
The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) issued a No Objection Certificate (NOC) earlier this month to Dinda who has been one of the top bowlers of Bengal. This NOC allowed him to turn out for another state in the upcoming domestic season.
He was mired in controversy last season when the 36-year old had a fall out with the team’s bowling coach, Ranadeb Bose. This led to the association taking disciplinary action against him, and he was kept out of the squad for the rest of the season.
In the Certificate, CAB chief Avishek Dalmiya, wrote: “We are sure that you would certainly perform well for the team that you intend to play for since there is a lot of cricket left in you.”
Dalmiya hopeful of Dinda’s return
Dalmiya, however, went on to add that he hopes Dinda stages a return to his home side in the future. “I must assert that your contribution to Bengal Cricket is immense over the years and it is something that would always be acknowledged and cherished by the board. At the same time, we hope that you would once again be back to your Home Association in the years to come,” the letter read.
Calling himself a victim of politics, Dinda had announced last year that he would not play for Bengal, who had ended runners-up in the 2019-2020 season. He said that he wants to start afresh for a new team.
Ashoke Dinda is one of the most successful bowlers from Bengal as he currently has 420 first-class wickets in his bag. The right-hander has also played 13 ODIs and nine T20Is for India, taking 12 and 17 wickets respectively.
