As the countdown for the biggest cricket festival has begun, everybody has braced themselves for the greatest tournament in the world. The International Cricket Council (ICC) has also named the team of umpires and referees for 48 matches tournament on Tuesday. The governing body has picked up a total of 16 umpires and six match referees for the glitzy event. Notably, Sundaram Ravi is the only Indian umpire representing the country in the quadrennial event.


The mouth-watering opening clash of  World Cup 2019 will be played between the hosting team England and South Africa at the remarkable pitch of Kennington Stadium on May 30. Moreover, the two on-field umpires in the game will be Kumar Dharmasena and Bruce Oxenford while Paul Reiffel will be named as the third umpire and Joel Wilson will be the fourth official during the match.

Praising the team of umpires and referees before the starting of World Cup 2019 the Senior Manager of International Cricket Council, Adrian Griffith said  “officiating at the World Cup as with playing, is an honour and the pinnacle of an official’s career”. Further, he also added, “it is a tough job with the eyes of the cricketing world on every decision, but this group of 22 is the very best from around the world who will rise to the occasion”.

The 12th edition of Men’s Cricket World Cup will be played between 10 strong teams including India, Pakistan, England, Australia, South Africa, West Indies, Afghanistan, New Zealand, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka across the amazing venues of England and Wales. Interestingly, this year England is going to host the grand cricket Cup for the first time after two decades. Moreover, a total of 48 matches are scheduled to be played among the World Cup favourites in the round robin format and the top four teams will battle in semi-finals to grab the shining trophy of World Cup 2019.

Afghanistan is going to make its World Cup debut this year with a brilliant 15-men squad led by experienced all-rounder cricketer Gulbadin Naib.
