Ahead of the major elections of Lok Sabha polls 2019, former Indian Cricketer Gautam Gambhir has stepped into politics by joining Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) on Friday in New Delhi. Gambhir took the reigns of saffron party in the presence of Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad. Notably, the cricketer will contest in the upcoming elections from one of the seven seats of BJP in Delhi.  “I am joining this party(BJP) after getting influenced by PM Narendra Modi’s vision. I am honoured to get the opportunity to join this platform,” said the 37-year-old cricketer. Gambhir, who inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to join the political field, had studied and grew up in Delhi which will prove as a plus point for the political party to gains votes in Delhi constituency at the time of elections 2019.

Earlier this month, the veteran cricketer along with four more sports personalities received the honour of Padma Awards from President Ram Nath Kovind for their incredible contribution to the sports world. Not only this, he was also conferred with second highest sporting honour, Arjuna Award by the President in 2008

Arun Jaitley, who feels that Gambhir is an important induction for BJP said on the joining of the cricketer, “the party will take a call at an appropriate time whether to field him in the Lok Sabha polls. The party will utilize his talent in a maximum way”. The cricketer was also welcomed by the Party head Amit Shah.
