One of the greatest Indian cricketers of all time, Sourav Ganguly is all set to hold the reigns of the biggest cricket governing body, BCCI as a new President. This came after the entire unit of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), along with the other bureaucrats met in a recent meeting on Sunday and unanimously decided to name Ganguly as the next President of BCCI.
However, in the full-fledged election drama, other members of the BCCI panel tried hard to be appointed as the next president of great organization but at the end of the day, Ganguly led the race and named as the new head.
The 47-year-old cricket legend said while elected as the new president of the apex governing body of cricket in India, “I am happy with the appointment because this is the time when BCCI’s image has got hampered and it’s a great opportunity for me to do something”. Further, he also added, “whether you are elected unopposed or otherwise, it’s a big responsibility because it is the biggest organization in the world of cricket. It will be a challenge”.
However, Ganguly was also offered the role of IPL chairman but he turned down the offer at around 6 p.m. on Sunday. As a result, the former Indian cricketer Brijesh Patel has been touted to grab the position.
Earlier in the last month, Ganguly has taken over the responsibility of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) as a president one more time. He was elected for the same position of CAB’s President in 2015 following Jagmohan Dalmiya’s demise. Since then Ganguly was leading the CAB panel and it seems like he will control the position for some more time. As per the constitution of BCCI, Ganguly will be able to serve as the President of CAB only till July 2020 after that, he will enter into his ‘cooling-off period’.
According to the reports, the batting maestro will take over the position of BCCI’s next president for a short period of time as he will go into a ‘cooling-off period’ from July 2020 under the new rules.
