International Cricket Council meeting today, BCCI expecting cancellation of the T20 World Cup. According to some sources, BCCI has prepared a roadmap of the Indian Premier League (IPL) assuming that T20 World Cup will be canceled.
IPL was scheduled to start from 29th March this year, but due to the COVID’19 outbreak, it got postponed. On the other hand, Australia is going to host the T20 World Cup from 18th October to 15th November, still, there is a doubt about the T20 World Cup happening this year. If the world cup gets postponed BCCI may schedule IPL between 26th September and 7th November. Before this Asia Cup 2020 which was scheduled to be held in Pakistan has been canceled.
BCCI to take action after ICC’s decision
BCCI’s apex council member told a news agency, “The first step was the postponement of Asia Cup, which has happened. We can only start to move ahead with our plans after the ICC announces the postponement. They have been sitting on the decision even after Cricket Australia said that they are not too keen on hosting the event.”
He added, “For the BCCI, conducting the IPL is of importance. But for that, the ICC must take a call on the T20 World Cup. Only then, we can think of planning the IPL. “It’s a call ICC has to take. But remember, the 2023 ODI World Cup is also in India. You can’t have back-to-back World Cups in India.”
IPL to be hosted in UAE
According to some sources BCCI is planning to host IPL between 26th September and 7th November. The final will be played on 7th November, so the Indian team gets time to prepare for the Australia tour. India has to play 4 test matches in Australia in December- January. Between all this BCCI has asked the Indian government to host IPL in UAE.
