After a series of abandoned matches in ICC World Cup 2019, the battle between England and West Indies operated without any jolt. The 19th match of grand cricket cup tournament witnessed exciting tussle between the hosting team England and struggling squad West Indies.

Chasing the paltry target of 213 runs in 50 overs, English squad edged past the Jason Holder and team with a margin of eight wickets at Rose Bowl Cricket Ground on Friday. After winning the toss, Eoin Morgan elected to bowl first against Windies and his talented pacers Mark Wood and Jofra Archer proved his decision right. Archer claimed three wickets including Nicholas Pooran, Carlos Brathwaite and Sheldon Cottrell while Wood dismissed Shai Hope, big-hitting batsman Andre Russell and Shannon Gabriel.

In the West Indies innings, none of the batsmen managed to cross the line of 63 against powerful hosts. The top two highest scorers of West Indies in the match were star cricketer Nicholas Pooran with 63 runs and young gun Shimron Hetmyer who earned as many as 39 runs in the game. England’s amazing bowling spell ended the innings of West Indies at just 212 runs in 44.4 overs.

Despite having an injury scare to captain Eoin Morgan and Jason Roy in the game, England performed very well in all three departments- batting, bowling, and fielding. The credit of the team’s clinical win clearly went to Joe Root’s century who lifted his squad to the second position in the points table. Root smashed an unbeaten hundred in total of 94 deliveries along with 11 astonishing boundaries against men in maroons.

Currently, England has moved to the second rank in the points table after earning six points in the World Cup so far while West Indies is still struggling at sixth position with only three points in the tournament.

After England sealed the match with an eight-wicket win, Twitter flooded with great applauds for Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow. Check the Tweets below:
