Hosts and ICC World Cup favourites England are going to take on wooden spooners Afghanistan on June 18th at Old Trafford Cricket Ground, Manchester in the 24th match of ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2019. Both the squads have played a total of four matches so far in the ongoing tournament. Out of these four matches England has eon three matches and one defeat while hapless Afghanistan are not able to clinch any of the game in their 50-over maiden world cup so far.

Morgan’s troop started its 2019 World Journey with a remarkable 104-run win over Proteas at ‘The Oval’stadium but their winning momentum in the tournament faced a jolt in the second match as Pakistan shocked the hosts by 14 runs at Trent Bridge stadium. Though it was not the end for English cricketers confidence as they bounced back in their next battle against Bangladesh where they posted the massive target of 386 runs which Bangladesh wasn’t able to cross and lost by 106 runs. In their last match, English cricketers grabbed an amazing eight-wicket win against West Indies at Rose Bowl Cricket Ground. Now, the hosting team reigning at fourth position with six points will look forward to maintain its winning record against Afghanistan in their fifth encounter.

On the other hand, ill-fated Afghanistan is looking to open its account in World Cup 2019 with the match against England. Though back to back defeats in the tournament put the whole Afghan squad confidence down but they still have some hopes to turn the tables around. Afghanistan began their campaign with a drastic seven wickets defeat against Australia at Bristol County Ground after which Gulbadin Naib-led squad kept on failing in the tournament. In their second match also Afghans fall short by 34 runs as Sri Lanka won the battle by 34 runs with the help of DLS method. The losing streak was followed by another disappointment when Afghanistan lost the game by seven wickets to New Zealand at County Ground, Taunton. In their last match against Proteas at Sophia Gardens, Afghanistan failed very badly and lost the game by nine wickets via DLS method. Currently reigning at the last position in points table, Afghanistan is looking forward for a miracle against England so that they can open their account in ongoing World Cup fixture.

Head-on-head records

Interestingly this would be the second time when England and Afghanistan face each other in World Cup 2019 as in the past they have played only one match against each other in which England beat the Afghans with a margin of nine wickets at Sydney.

Weather Forecast
