After an average show at three-match T20I series against Proteas last week, Indian cricketers are now aiming to bounce back with the three-match Test series at their home pitch against equally challenging opponents South Africa. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has recently announced a 15-member Test squad against Proteas for the upcoming prestigious series starting from October 2nd. When on one side, young player Shubman Gill paved his way to the powerful Test squad, Jasprit Bumrah on the other, ruled out from the series which came as a big shock for Indian cricket fans.
One of the finest pacers of Indian Cricket Team, Jasprit Bumrah has sustained a minor stress fracture in his lower back before the starting of Test series. As a result, he will not be available for the important fixture and Umesh Yadav will take his place in the game. Bumrah will now undergo rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. Bumrah’s departure from India’s test squad could benefit Proteas in many ways. Though, stalwarts Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant are still in the team which will surely help men in blue to recover from the big blow.
The Chief selector of Indian National Cricket Team, MSK Prasad said while announcing the squad, “we want to give Rohit Sharma an opportunity to open the innings in Tests”.
The first Test match between both the teams will be played at ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium from October 2nd till October 6th. Now after a 1-1 T20I series draw, it will be interesting to see who will dominate whom in the opening Test battle.
