India vs New Zealand is going to be a series where both teams will be trying to finalize some slots as there are not many days that are remaining for the world cup. The first XI for both the teams are mostly ready but there is still a question mark over some places. In this article, we are looking at India’s problems.
India’s number 4 problem:
India have not solved their number 4 problem. Ambati Rayudu seemed to have made that spot his own but his performance in the first two One-dayers was not up to the mark and he made way for Dhoni in the last one-dayer. He was not even picked in the team and made way for Kedar Jadhav who took the chance with both hands scoring a match-winning half-century. The fact that he is more than a handy bowler in the ODI format gives Jadhav an edge over other contenders. Only God knows what would have happened if Maxwell had the hold on to the chance given by Dhoni on the first ball he faced in the last ODI.
India’s bowling combination:
In the absence of Hardik Pandya whose future is still uncertain, Virat Kohli has been facing a new problem. He has to play Ravindra Jadeja as he has to have someone whom he can trust with 10 overs but cannot do so at the expense of someone who cannot bat. He can only pick one of Kuldeep and Chahal as Jadeja is the third spinner already but you won’t need to play three spinners in England where the world cup will take place. When Hardik and Jadhav both play, they give assurance of 10 overs without elongating the tail. If Bumrah is certainty in ODI XI and you want to play both Chahal and Kuldeep in England then there needs to be a seaming allrounder given the conditions.
India’s conundrum with Rishab Pant:
Rishab Pant’s good show in Australia has left everyone asking why is he not in ODI squad. After Dhoni’s poor show in first ODI, there were calls that Pant should be played in ODI team even if it means at the expense of Dhoni. India already has a backup keeper in Dinesh Karthik so to think that Pant also can be played as a batsman only will leave Kohli with only 5 bowling options and if a bowler had a bad day then the skipper will have no one to turn to.
