Retirement is a very emotional and personal matter for every person. But when it comes to sports, a player’s retirement is not in his hands. Many factors decide, when will a player retire. There can be many reasons behind the retirement, age is one of major factors when it comes to a sportsperson, but, there can be many more factors behind the retirement of a player. Such as political issues, performance issues, and even some issues with the captain or leader of the team. Even if some players perform well they retire. Leaving everyone clueless they just retire.
In Indian cricket, some players didn’t get a chance even after performing well. Here are four such Indian cricketers who won man of the match award in their last match but never got a chance after that, eventually over time they retired.
- Irfan Pathan
Born and brought up in Baroda, Irfan was a part of the 2007 T20 world cup squad. He was always important for the Indian cricket team when it comes to ODIs and T20s. Surprisingly he never got a chance to play an ODI after 2012. Though he performed very well in his last ODI match but still was dropped from the squad. In his last ODI the all-rounder scored 29 runs and got 5 wickets, he even won the man of the match award, sadly even after doing so much he never got a chance to play again in ODI.
- Subramaniam Badrinath
He only played one T20I in his whole career and never got a chance after that. In that match also he scored 43 runs against West Indies, he played a match-winning knock but never got a chance to play an international T20I after that.
- Pragyan Ojha
Sachin Tendulkar’s last match was very emotional for his fans and the whole Indian cricket fraternity. But who knew that it was the last match even for Ojha. Yes, Ojha and Tendulkar played their last match on the same day. We all know Sachin retired because of his age, but no one knows why Ojha said bye to International cricket even after getting the man of the match award in his last match.
- Amit Mishra
In the famous match against New Zealand where Indian players whore t-shirts with there mother’s name on back Amit Mishra got man of the match award. Not just that he even won the man of the series award in that series. But that match and series became last of his international career. Maybe due to the entry of new and young spinning duo of KULCHA (Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal).
