In the clash between Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bangalore that took place at the Feroz Shah Kotla, the home side emerged as the winners. DC won this game by a margin of 16 runs. Shikhar Dhawan won the ‘Man of the Match’ for his brilliant knock in the game.
After winning the toss, DC skipper Shreyas Iyer opted to bat first and they made just an obvious change in their Playing XI as Sandeep Lamichhane played the match in place of Chris Morris. On the other hand for RCB, three changes were made from the last game as Shivam Dube, Heinrich Klasen and Gurkeerat Singh Mann came in the side in place of Moeen Ali, Tim Southee and Akshdeep Nath.
Striking first, DC opener Prithvi Shaw once again threw away his wicket for 18 runs to his name. After him, Shikhar Dhawan and Shreyas Iyer got to wonderful half centuries to give the direction to their team for a big finish and the job was well performed by Axar Patel and Sherfane Rutherford with their respective quick knocks of 16* and 23*. By this, DC successfully posted a huge total of 187-5 on the board at the end of their 20 overs.
Washington Sundar was the most economical bowler for RCB in this match with his spell of 4-0-29-1 and apart from him, all the other bowlers were on a slightly expensive side and the majority of the runs were conceded at the death overs.
Chasing 188, RCB openers provided them with the desired start before Parthiv Patel got out after playing a stylish knock of 39 runs off just 20 balls. After him, Virat Kohli also also soon got out in the similar manner for 23 runs. Few other batsmen played knocks 20-30 odd runs but that was never going to be enough for a victory.
Delhi Capitals’ bowlers were on point throughout and the game and they came back very well in the match after conceding a few runs in the beginning. Axar Patel was the most economical bowler for DC while Mishra and Rabada took two wickets each.
After winning this game, DC moved to the top of the points and this has also ensured them a position in the top four and now they will look to finish in the top two. On the other hand, RCB has been officially eliminated from any chance of qualification in the playoffs.
