The 31st match of the Indian Premier League 2019 took place between the Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai where the home side. MI won the match by a margin of 5 wickets and Lasith Malinga emerged as the ‘Man of the Match’ for his bowling figures of 4/31.
After winning the toss, MI skipper Rohit Sharma opted to field first and they made just one obvious change in their Playing XI which was to bring Lasith Malinga back and bench Alzarri Joseph. On the other hand, RCB skipper Virat Kohli did not make any changes as they decided not to disturb the winning combination from the last game.
Striking first, RCB lost the wicket of Virat Kohli at the early stage of the innings and Parthiv Patel also once again threw his wicket after getting a start of 28 odd runs. After them, AB de Villiers and Moeen Ali batted sensibly for their knocks of 75 and 50 runs respectively and as a result, their team posted a decent total of 171/7 on the board at the end of their 20 overs.
Comeback player Lasith Malinga was the pick of the bowlers for MI with his terrific spell of 4-0-31-4 which came at the end of the innings and this stopped RCB from posting a massive total on the board despite of good batting in the middle overs.
Chasing 172, MI openers once again provided their team with the desired start before Moeen Ali got the wickets of both them in a single over. Rohit and de Kock got out after playing the knocks of 28 and 40 runs respectively. After them, Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan also played good quick innings but it was the knock of Hardik Pandya (37* off 16 balls) that ensured a victory for his team.
After this victory, Mumbai Indians moved to the third spot in the Points Table with 10 points out of eight games while RCB registered one more loss in this season. Now, it will be going to be really very difficult for them to qualify for the players as now they can’t afford to lose a game as this will clearly rule them out of the tournament.
