The 38th match of the Indian Premier League 2019 took place between the Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knight Riders where the home side won the match. SRH emerged as victorious in this game comfortably by nine wickets in hand. Khaleel Ahmed won the ‘Man of the Match’ award for his brilliant spell in the game.
SRH skipper Kane Williamson won the toss and took the decision of bowling first without making any change in their Playing XI from the last match while KKR made three changes which were in quite desperation. For them KC Cariappa, Yarra Prithviraj and Rinku Singh played this match instead of Robin Uthappa, Prasidh Krishna and Kuldeep Yadav.
Batting first, KKR openers started brilliantly but it was for a very short time as Sunil Narine departed for 25 runs off just eight deliveries. But once he got out, their batting didn’t accelerate at most of the times throughout the innings. Chris Lynn scored a half century but it came at a strike rate of just over 100. Rinku Singh also played a similar kind of knock of 30 runs and all this helped KKR post a part score of 159-8 on the board at the end of their 20 overs.
All the SRH bowlers decently but the pick of them was Khaleel Ahmed with his spell of 4-0-33-3 and all the three wickets were of the top three batsmen. These wickets were also special as they came on this pitch which is a slightly slowish in nature and is helpful for spinners and not the seamers. But, read the wicket well and adapted accordingly which resulted him fruitfully.
While chasing 160 runs, SRH openers David Warner and Jonny Bairstow made it look a very small target as their team chased it down with five overs to spare. Both of them played the knocks of 67 and 80* runs respectively and that too at a strike rate of over 175.
With this win, SRH moved up to the third position in the Points Table while it was the fifth consecutive loss for KKR which has slimmed their chances of qualifying for the playoffs as now they need to win all of their remaining which is going to be really difficult.
