The stage for the twelfth edition of the Indian Premier League is all set where the defending champions Chennai Super Kings will take on Royal Challengers Bangalore at their home ground, MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on March 23, 2019 from 8:00 p.m. onwards. This match will be preceded by a Grand Opening Ceremony which will take place just before it from 6:00 p.m. onwards. Coming to the match, it will be an interesting contest to witness keeping in mind the previous encounters of these two teams and also, it will be a match of Indian former captain’s team CSK against the current captain’s team RCB. As it’s a tournament opener, it’s expected to be a bit more excited just like the last time where Chennai won a thriller against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai in the opening encounter.
Last time when these two teams met, it was not an interesting game as while batting first, Royal Challengers Bangalore could only manage to score 127 to which in reply, CSK comprehensively chased it down with six wickets in hand and two overs to spare. Ravindra Jadeja was adjudged as the ‘Man of the Match’ for that game.
As it doesn’t take much time to turn the fortunes either way, so, RCB will look to forget everything that happened in the past and will look to start from a fresh beginning. They are one of those few teams that look solid on paper each time but yet could not have a trophy in their cabinet. But this time, they added some exciting players like Shivam Dubey, Shimron Hetmyer and Marcus Stoinis that will not only lower the burden from Kohli and de Villiers but also provide much more depth to the batting.
On the other hand, CSK didn’t have much to change as they are entering this tournament as the defending champions and will take the field with a somewhat similar team that played the last year’s final. The only possible change that they would like to make will be bringing back Mohit Sharma in the Playing XI in place of either Shardul Thakur or Deepak Chahar and will definitely start as the favourites for this game as they have most of the bases covered as compared to their rival.
Expected CSK Vs RCB Playing XI:
Chennai Super Kings – MS Dhoni (Skipper/WK), Shane Watson, Suresh Raina, Faf du Plessis, Ambati Rayudu, Dwayne Bravo, Kedar Jadhav, Ravindra Jadeja, Deepak Chahar, Shardul Thakur/Mohit Sharma, David Willey/Imran Tahir
Royal Challengers Bangalore – Virat Kohli (Skipper), Parthiv Patel (WK), AB de Villiers, Shivam Dubey, Shimron Hetmyer, Nathan Coulter Nile, Yuzvendra Chahal, Washington Sundar, Mohammad Siraj, Umesh Yadav, Marcus Stoinis/Moeen Ali
