The 32nd match of the Indian Premier League 2019 took place between the Kings XI Punjab and Rajasthan Royals at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium in Mohali where the home side won the match. KXIP won the match by a margin of 12 runs and their skipper Ravi Ashwin won the ‘Man of the Match’ award for his all-round performance.
After winning the toss, RR skipper Ajinkya Rahane opted to field first and they made three changes in their Playing XI as they brought in Ashton Turner, Stuart Binny and Ish Sodhi came into the side in place of Liam Livingstone, Krishnappa Gowtham and Steve Smith. For KXIP, David Miller and Arshdeep Singh played the match instead of Sam Curran and Sarfaraz Khan.
Striking first, KXIP openers KL Rahul and Chris Gayle started steadily but quite slowly for their knocks of 52 and 30 runs respectively which was followed by a quick knock of 26 runs from the bat of Mayank Agarwal. David Miller also played a good knock of 40 runs off just 27 balls and with the help of Ashwin’s cameo of 17* off 4, KXIP posted 182-6 on the board at the end of their 20 overs.
Jofra Archer led the bowling attack for Rajasthan Royals for his terrific spell of 4-0-15-3 while all other bowlers were on a bit expensive side.
Chasing 183, it was just the knock of Rahul Tripathi who scored a fifty at a decent rate while a few other players got to starts but no one could capitalize from there. There were a lot of expectations from Ashton Turner who was playing his first game but got out of on the first ball he faced after playing a poor shot. Stuart Binny played some promising shots in the end but it was always a lot to ask for.
With this win, KXIP moved to the upper half of the Points Table as right now they are placed at the fourth position while RR continue with their miserable performance as they are still at the second last spot in the Points Table.
