Right after their record-breaking victory in the nail-biting final of Indian Premier League 2019, Mumbai Indians’ most valuable player Kieron Pollard was fined 25 per cent of his match fee for showing disagreement on Umpire’s decision during the match against defending champions Chennai Super Kings on Sunday at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad.
Mumbai Indians who won the toss in the final and elected to bat first for one last time in the 12th edition of IPL. Though MS Dhoni and company gave a tough fight to stop Mumbai Indians from setting a big target but Pollard power helped his side to post a competitive total of 149. The big-hitter Pollard was the last hope left for Mumbai Indians in the final overs and he scored unbeaten 41 runs off 25 balls. During his last over against Dwayne Bravo, Pollard lost his calm after the Umpire did not give wide to a ball pitched well outside the indicator line. This led to a heated argument between the Windies cricketer and Umpires after which the authorities fined him for his misbehaviour.
The Indian Premier League authorities issued a statement against the 32-year-old and said, “Pollard admitted to the Level 1 offence 2.8 of the IPL Code of Conduct for Players and Team Officials and accepted the sanction. For Level 1 breaches, the match referee’s decision is final and binding”.
On the match front, starting their game at a slow place Mumbai Indians set a competitive target of only 150 runs which was looking a child-play for captain cool Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s team but later Rohit Sharma’s team put whatever it takes in the do or die match to clinch their fourth maiden title with one-run narrow win.
Later in the match-winning night for Mumbai, brilliant player Pollard was bestowed with ‘Perfect Catch of the Season’ award after his single-handed catch against Suresh Raina in the league stage match. He takes home Rs 1,00,000.
Moreover, the star player of the West Indies was not able to impress the Windies selectors for upcoming World Cup 2019. The absence of experienced cricketers like Kieron Pollard and Sunil Narine in the 2019 ICC World Cup squad came as a big shock for all the cricket fans.
