As the grand tournament of Indian Premier League is heading towards its final showdown, Rajasthan Royals appointed foreign star player Steve Smith as their new captain for remainder matches in the league on Saturday. This comes after the squad felt the need of a young blood who can lead them with fresher approach and nobody could be better than experienced Australian cricketer Smith as he can make wonders with his optimistic mindset in exciting playoff matches in IPL 2019. However, the 29-year-old cricketer who made a fantastic comeback this year after his one year ban, has been picked up by the Australian team selectors for the 15-men squad for ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2019.
Head of Cricket for Rajasthan Royals (RR), Zubin Bharucha said on the development, “Ajinkya is and will always be a true Royal. He led the team to the play offs in 2018 in a very challenging scenario and that will go down as one of the great comebacks of the IPL”. He also added, “Rahane remains a key part of our side and leadership team and will extend support wherever required to Steve”.
