The 39th match of the Indian Premier League 2019 took place between the Royal Challengers Bangalore and Chennai Super Kings where the home side won the match. RCB won the match by a single run on the last ball of the over. Parthiv Patel won the ‘Man of the Match’ award for his half century in the game.
After winning the toss, MS Dhoni took the decision of fielding first and they made two changes in their Playing XI as along with him, Dwayne Bravo also came into the side in place of Sam Billings and Karn Sharma who missed out on playing this game. While RCB also made two changes as AB de Villiers got fit and returned to the side in place of Heinrich Klaasen and Umesh Yadav came in to replace Mohammed Siraj.
Batting first, RCB lost the wicket of Virat Kohli inside the powerplay and that of de Villiers immediately after it for the scores of nine and 25 runs respectively. Akshdeep Nath, who got a promotion, also got out after playing an almost run-a-ball knock of 24 runs. In the end, Moeen Ali played a quick inning of 26 runs that helped his team post 161/7 on the board at the end of their 20 overs.
In bowling, Ravindra Jadeja was the most successful bowler for CSK with his brilliant spell of 4-0-29-2. He also got good support from Deepak Chahar who bowled a similar kind of spell (4-0-25-2).
Chasing 162, CSK lost the wickets of their top four batsmen for just 28 runs where none of them touched even the double digit run mark. After them, MS Dhoni and Ambati Rayudu batted well before the latter got out which followed the wicket of Ravindra Jadeja as well. But MS Dhoni stayed at the crease and took the game to the last ball of the match. 26 runs were needed off the last over and their team could score 24 runs and fell just one run short of winning the game.
By this win, RCB successfully managed to gain two more precious points to stay in the competition for qualifying for the playoffs but there were no changes to the positions in the Points Table as CSK remain to stay at the top of it while RCB are the last spot.
