Former India opener Aakash Chopra slammed the team selection of Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) in the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The 42-year questioned the spot of New Zealand all-rounder Jimmy Neesham during a video uploaded on his official YouTube channel.
“They play Neesham, an overseas fast bowler, who neither bowls in the powerplay nor at the death overs. He is neither a great finisher nor a big batsman who bats in the top four or five. So why is Kings XI Punjab playing him? You are playing a player who is not really a match-winner,” Chopra said.
Aakash Chopra is currently working as a commentator in IPL 2020, taking place in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). He also said that KXIP should include Afghan off-spinner Mujeeb-ur-Rahman in the playing XI.
“First thing is that Kings XI Punjab is not playing the right team. Honestly, they are the only team in the world where Mujeeb is not able to make it to the playing XI after being in the squad.”
The all-rounder tweeted in response to this statement of Aakash Chopra. The 30-year old laughed his heart out while pointing out the T20 career statistics of Chopra. He has played 21 T20 matches scoring 334 runs at an average of 18.55 and a strike-rate of 91.25.
“Averaging 18.5 striking at 90 doesn’t win many matches either,” wrote Neesham on the micro-blogging site.
Their exchange of words didn’t end here as the former KKR batsman also took on Twitter to give a befitting reply.
“Correct my friend. That’s why nobody picks me anymore. I get paid for doing something else. I’m glad that you don’t have an issue with my observations but with my cricket stats. Go well for the rest of the #IPL,” Chopra wrote in his tweet.
