Virat Kohli-led Royal Challengers Bangalore beat last year’s runner-ups Chennai Super Kings by 37 runs to enter the top four in the Points Table. Skipper Virat Kohli won the ‘Man of the Match’ award for his splendid knock in the match.
RCB skipper Virat Kohli won the toss and opted to bat first at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai. They made two changes in their side as Chris Morris and Gurkeerat Singh Mann came in for Moeen Ali and Mohammed Siraj. On the other hand, Chennai Super Kings dropped Kedar Jadhav to make way for debutant N Jagadeesan.
Chennai Super Kings were off to a brilliant start after getting the crucial wicket of Aaron Finch inside the powerplay. Padikkal too got out after run-a-ball 33 runs before AB de Villiers followed him for a rare two-ball duck. Skipper Kohli played till the end of the inning for his unbeaten knock of 90* runs.
The Bangalore-based franchise posted a fighting total of 169/4 on the board on a difficult batting pitch of Dubai. Shardul Thakur picked two wickets for CSK while Chahar and Curran shared a wicket each.
Yet another failure from CSK batsmen
Chennai Super Kings openers failed to provide a start for their team as Faf du Plessis and Shane Watson lost their wickets inside the powerplay. Ambati Rayudu and debutant Jagadeesan played solid knocks in the middle-overs but ended up consuming too many balls. MS Dhoni also failed to deliver despite promoting himself up in the batting order.
RCB debutant Chris Morris emerged as the pick of the bowlers with his brilliant spell of 4-0-19-3. Spinners Washington Sundar and Yuzvendra Chahal were also amongst the wicket-takers to restrict CSK at 132-8.
With this loss, CSK’s chances of qualifying for the playoffs further rues as they have five losses in seven games against their name.
