Dinesh Karthik-led Kolkata Knight Riders beat Kings XI Punjab by two runs to climb the third spot at the Points Table. IPL 2020 witnessed yet another nail-biting finish as all three results were possible till the last ball was bowled.
After winning the toss, KKR skipper Dinesh Karthik opted to bat first at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi. Both sides made one change each as Chris Jordan came back in for Sheldon Cottrell. On the other hand, Parsidh Krishna got a chance to play in place of Shivam Mavi as the latter suffered a niggle before the game.
Batting first, KKR lost their last match’s hero Rahul Tripathi cheaply inside the powerplay. His partner Shubman Gill consolidated innings well with his yet another half-century in the season. After a run-a-ball knock of 24 runs from Eoin Morgan, skipper Dinesh Karthik came to the crease. He played a brilliant knock of 58 runs off just 29 balls to help his team post a decent total of 164-6 on the board at the end of their 20 overs.
Youngsters Arshdeep Singh and Ravi Bishnoi emerged as the best bowlers for KXIP with their respective spells of 4-1-25-1 and 4-0-25-1. Mohammed Shami also bowled well to claim the crucial wicket of Tripathi.
Yet another close loss for KXIP
Kings XI Punjab openers Mayank Agarwal and KL Rahul provided their team with yet another great start in this tournament. The duo went on to score a massive partnership of 115 runs to almost clinching the game for their side. KKR bowled well in the middle-overs, but Rahul held the inning from the other end.
With the equation down to seven runs on one ball, Glenn Maxwell hit a four and KXIP registered yet another close loss in this tournament. Kolkata Knight Riders made one of the best comebacks of this season to clinch the game by two runs.
