After a comprehensive win in the last match, Royal Challengers Bangalore suffered a one-sided defeat against Kings XI Punjab. The Punjab-based franchise beat the Virat Kohli-led RCB by an enormous margin of 97 runs. KXIP skipper KL Rahul won the ‘Player of the Match’ award for his tremendous knock of 132*.
Following this year’s tradition so far, Kohli won the toss and opted to field first in the match 6 of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020. Without any surprises, RCB took the field with the same playing XI as the last encounter against Sunrisers Hyderabad. On the other hand, Punjab made two changes as Jimmy Neesham, Murugan Ashwin came in place of Chris Jordan and Krishnappa Gowtham.
Punjab’s entire innings was about their skipper KL Rahul who played one of the best knocks in the history of this tournament. Rahul’s outstanding knock of 132* became the highest score by any captain in IPL. Moreover, he also achieved the record of most runs as an Indian player in an IPL game.
At one stage of the match, Rahul was toying with the RCB bowlers as their lead pacer Dale Steyn ended with bowling figures of 4-0-57-0. Umesh Yadav and Shivam Dube too conceded runs at an economy over 11 while Navdeep Saini leaked 37 runs in his quota of four overs.
No fightback from RCB batsmen
RCB have a power-packed batting line-up, but none of them stayed at the crease for a longer duration. Last match’s hero Devdutt Padikkal got out for a solitary run, and skipper Virat Kolhi matched him. Washington Sundar and AB de Villiers showed some resilience in the end for their respective knocks 30 and 28.
Complementing the brilliant knock from KL Rahul, KXIP bowlers too performed exceptionally well to claim all ten wickets of the opposition inside 17 overs.
