Defending champions Mumbai Indians continue with their winning run in the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The ‘Men in blue and gold’ clinched the game against Rajasthan Royals by 57 runs to reach the top of the Points Table. Suryakumar Yadav won the ‘Player of the Match’ award.
MI skipper Rohit Sharma opted to bat first after winning the toss at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium of Abu Dhabi. As expected, the Mumbai-based franchise took the field with the same playing XI as they continued with their winning combination.
On the other hand, Rajasthan made as many as three changes in their playing XI. Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ankit Rajpoot and Kartik Tyagi came into the side for Riyan Parag, Robin Uthappa and Jaydev Unadkat.
Batting first, Mumbai Indians lost the wickets of both their openers after they got off to a decent start. Youngster Ishan Kishan played a rash shot to register a golden duck. But MI’s entire innings was all about Suryakumar Yadav who played a splendid knock of 79* runs off just 47 deliveries. With a few shots from Hardik Pandya in the end, MI Paltan posted a massive total of 193-4 on the board.
Shreyas Gopal emerged as the pick of the bowlers for RR with his spell of 4-0-28-2. He took the big wickets of Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan.
Jos Buttler: Lone warriors in the run-chase
Rajasthan Royals managed to post a paltry total of 136-10 while chasing 194. Their run-chase was all about opener Jos Buttler’s knock of 70 runs. The Englishman scored more than 50% of his team’s total. As a result, the Royals fell short by 57 runs which led to a massive dip in their Net Run Rate.
Ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah bowled a magnificent spell of 4-0-24-4 along with support from other bowlers. Boult and Pattinson also picked up two wickets each.
