After a comprehensive start, Chennai Super Kings lost their second match of Indian Premier League (IPL) against Rajasthan Royals. The home team Royals defeated CSK by 16 runs at their home ground Sharjah Cricket Stadium, Sharjah. Star batsman Sanju Samson won the ‘Player of the Match’ award for his blissful knock of 74 runs off just 32 deliveries.
Chennai skipper MS Dhoni won the toss and opted to field first. After some fitness issues for their last match hero Ambati Rayudu, youngster Ruturaj Gaikwad got a game to play. On the other hand, Rajasthan played the expected playing XI, but with an extra leg-spinner in the form of Rahul Tewatia.
Batting first, RR lost the early wicket of promising batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal with just 11 runs on the board. After that, what the fans witnessed was an absolute treat! Sanju Samson went after CSK bowlers for his quick-fire 74 runs. Steve Smith also batted well for his half-century, and with mind-blowing slogging from Jofra Archer, the Royals posted 216/7 on the board.
CSK failed to continue with the winning run
Chennai Super Kings openers Murali Vijay and Shane Watson provided their team with a sturdy start before both of them lost their wickets in consecutive overs. Faf du Plessis played yet another tremendous knock for his team to keep the hopes alive in the dugout.
Sam Curran and Kedar Jadhav played small cameos in the middle before Dhoni hit a few shots at the end. All this was not enough as the Chennai-based franchise fell short by 16 runs.
In the bowling department for Rajasthan, all the bowlers ticked the wickets column apart from Jaydev Unadkat. Jofra Archer was the most economical bowler as the Englishman conceded just 25 runs at an economy of a bit over six runs per over.
