Virat Kohli-led Royal Challengers Bangalore beat Kolkata Knight Riders by 82 runs in match 29 of IPL 2020. With this thumping victory, RCB displaced KKR to reach the third spot at the Points Table with five wins in seven clashes.
RCB skipper Virat Kohli opted to bat first after winning the toss at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium, Sharjah. The Bangalore-based franchise made a single change in their playing XI as Gurkeerat Singh Mann made way for speedster Mohammed Siraj. Kolkata also made a surprising change after dropping Sunil Narine to play English opener Tom Banton.
Batting first, RCB openers Aaron Finch and Devdutt Padikkal provided their team with a flourishing start. They reached 47 for no loss at the end of the powerplay. Both of them went on to play gritty knocks of 47 and 32 respectively. Virat Kohli also played a decent inning of 33* runs.
But AB de Villiers emerged as the best batsman for them with a brilliant 73* off just 33 deliveries. This knock from de Villiers helped RCB post 194-2 on the board after their 20 overs. His late fireworks also helped the Challengers to shift the momentum in their favour.
Dismal batting performance from KKR
Chasing 195 was never going to be an easy task for the Knight Riders. They tried a new opening pair in this game as Shubman Gill came with debutant Tom Banton to start the innings. But they failed to perform as the latter got out after scoring just eight runs. Gill emerged as their leading run-getter in this game with his knock of 34. None of the other Kolkata batsmen could put up runs on the board.
RCB bowlers showed one of the best performances in this tournament thus far. Kohli tried six bowling options, and each one of them managed to tick the wickets column. Morris and Sundra picked two wickets each, while the remaining four claimed one scalp for Bangalore.
