The 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) witnessed yet another super over game within ten days of the tournament. Home team Royal Challengers Bangalore beat Mumbai Indians, despite heroics from Ishan Kishan and Kieron Pollard. AB de Villiers won the ‘Player of the Match’ for his spectacular all-round performance in the game.
After winning the toss, MI skipper Rohit Sharma invited the Virat Kohli-led side to bat first. MI Paltan made just a single change in their playing XI as Saurabh Tiwary was unfit and youngster Ishan Kishan replaced him. On the other hand, Virat Kohli made plenty of changes in his side.
Gurkeerat Singh Mann, Isuru Udana and Adam Zampa came in the side for Umesh Yadav, Dale Steyn and Joshua Philippe.
RCB openers Devdutt Padikkal and Aaron Finch provided their team with a swashbuckling start as both scored quickfire half-centuries. Surprisingly, skipper Virat Kohli saw his third consecutive failure in this season after he got out for just three runs. In the end, AB de Villiers once again came to their rescue with a brilliant knock of 55 runs. With Shivam Dube’s magnificent hitting in the end, Bangalore posted a total of 201/3 after their 20 overs.
Spectacular chase from Kishan and Pollard
After failures from the top three batsmen of the Mumbai’s camp, Ishan Kishan kept the hopes alive for them. The youngster, who was playing his maiden match of this match was joined by Kieron Pollard. Both of them tonked the bowlers for their respective knocks of 99 and 60*.
With a boundary on the ultimate delivery, Pollard almost won the game for his team, but still, he managed to level the scores.
Navdeep Saini bowled the super over for the Bangalore-based franchise and gave away just seven runs. In reply, Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers successfully managed to chase down the target off Jasprit Bumrah to clinch two crucial points for their side.
