Three-time Indian Premier League (IPL) champions Chennai Super Kings beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by 20 runs in match 29 of the tournament. With this win, CSK gained two crucial points to reach the sixth spot at the Points Table.
After winning the toss, CSK skipper MS Dhoni opted to bat first at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai. Both the sides played an extra spinner in this game, keeping the pitch conditions in mind. CSK dropped Jagadeesan to play Piyush Chawla, on the other hand, SRH roped in Shahbaz Nadeem for Abhishek Sharma.
Batting first, CSK surprised all after making a big move to open with Sam Curran alongside Faf du Plessis. Curran impressed with his knock of 31 runs off 21 balls, but the latter got out for a golden duck. After them, Shane Watson and Ambati Rayudu played sturdy knocks of 42 and 41 runs respectively.
With brilliant finishing touches from MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja, CSK posted a decent total of 167-6 after their 20 overs. For SRH, Sandeep Sharma emerged as the pick of the bowlers with his terrific spell of 4-0-19-2. Spinners Rashid Khan and Nadeem also bowled tight overs in the middle.
Brilliant finish by CSK bowlers
Sunrisers Hyderabad didn’t get the expected start as they lost the wickets of David Warner and Manish Pandey inside the powerplay. After them, Jonny Bairstow and Kane Williamson showed their experience in the middle overs. The former could not get to a big score, but the Kiwi batsman scored a brilliant half-century.
Williamson’s wicket took all hopes away from the Sunrisers. Rashid Khan played a few shots at the end, but all went in vain for SRH. Chennai used seven bowling options, and all of them contributed to their 20 runs victory.
