David Warner-led Sunrisers Hyderabad registered their third victory of the season after defeating Kings XI Punjab by a massive margin of 69 runs. Jonny Bairstow won the ‘Player of the Match’ award, and with this victory, SRH climbs to the third position in the Points Table.
After winning the toss, SRH skipper David Warner opted to bat first at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai. They made a single change in their playing XI as Khaleel Ahmed came back in for Siddarth Kaul. On the other hand, KXIP continued with experimentation as Simran Singh, Arshdeep Singh and Mujeeb Ur Rahman played in place of Sarfaraz Khan, Harpreet Brar and Chris Jordan.
Batting first turned out to be a magnificent decision for the ‘orange army’ as their openers looked in dangerous touch. Warner played a knock of 52 runs, while his partner Jonny Bairstow just missed out on a well-deserved IPL century. The Englishman scored 97 runs off 55 deliveries.
After a small comeback by the KXIP bowlers, Kane Williamson played a few shots in the end to help SRH post 201-6 on the board. Youngsters Ravi Bishnoi and Arshdeep Nath were the most successful bowlers for Punjab as they picked three and two wickets each.
Solo show from Nichlas Pooran
KXIP batsmen failed to deliver and got out like nine pins. Nicholas Pooran was the lone warrior for them in this clash as the West Indian smashed 77 runs off just 37 deliveries. He kept Punjab’s hopes alive till the 15th over before getting out on an outstanding delivery off Rashid Khan.
Kings XI Punjab batsmen could only manage to post 132 on the board and lost all their wickets in the meanwhile. This loss of 69 runs further worsens the Net Run Rate of KXIP as they still struggle at the last spot of the Point Table.
