Mumbai Indians middle-order batsman Ishan Kishan batted exceptionally well for his score of 99 runs on Monday. Chasing a massive total of 202 against Mumbai Indians, Kishan played till the end to keep his team in the game. He fell just a run short to reach the three-figure mark to become the third centurion of the 13th edition of Indian Premier League (IPL).
In search of smashing a six in the final over, the 22-year old was caught in the deep and got out on 99. It was unfortunate for him to not get to his first IPL hundred despite getting so close to the milestone.
Following this, Kishan suffered another heartbreak when his team failed to cross the required run-mark. The match went to the Super Over, where Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers won it for the Royal Challengers Bangalore.
The youngster was applauded by fans and experts all over, but he also managed to join an unwanted rare list. After his scintillating knock against RCB, Ishan Kishan became the third batsman to get out on 99 in IPL history. Here are the other two players who achieved this unique feat:
Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper Virat Kohli was the first individual in the IPL to be dismissed for 99 runs. This incident took place in the 2013 edition of the tournament in a game against Delhi Daredevils. Batting at 98*, Kohli tried to take a couple, but he fell short by one run and was tragically run out on 99.
The next player to be dismissed on 99 was Delhi Capitals opener, Prithvi Shaw. During a game against Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2019, Shaw smashed 50 off 30 balls. In the final over bowled by Lockie Ferguson, he mishit a short ball and was caught for 99, but the game went in his team’s favour as the match went into the Super Over.
