One of the most popular franchises of the Indian Premier League, Rajasthan Royals has appointed former Australian cricket star Andrew Barry McDonald as the head coach of the team for a period of three years on Monday. The 38-year-old Australian All-rounder was part of the IPL family in the 2009 edition where he played for the franchise Delhi Daredevils. Not only this, but he had also assisted Virat Kohli’s team Royal Challengers Bangalore in the previous editions as the bowling coach and as a crucial player also.

Now, in the 13th season of the grand tournament, he is coming back to Indian soil but this time for ‘Pink Royals’. The Royals are very much excited to have such an experienced Australian cricketer in their team. It will be interesting to see whether the inaugural season title lifter Rajasthan Royals will be able to relive the history one more time in IPL 2020 under the guidance of legendary cricketer McDonald or not.

While being appointed as the head coach of Royals in IPL season 13, McDonald said, “I’m delighted to join the Royals family. It’s a great honour to take on this responsibility”. Further, he also added, “the Rajasthan Royals is a new, exciting challenge for me, and I can’t wait to get started working with our world-class players and coaches in one of the biggest sporting leagues in the world”.

In the last edition of the Indian Premier League, Rajasthan Royals failed to qualify for the play-off stage and wrapped up their show at the seventh spot with only five victories in IPL standing. With head coach McDonald in their team, now they are looking quite hopeful about their good performances in the next season.

Earlier in this month, another powerful franchise of Indian Premier League Kings XI Punjab also announced its head coach for the upcoming season. The co-owner of the franchise Ness Wadia named former Indian skipper Anil Kumble as the new head coach of the team.

Ahead of the forthcoming season of grand cricketing festival IPL, all the participating franchises have already started making changes in their respective squads to perform better in this season.
