Star South African Pacer Lungi Ngidi has given injury scare to his team ahead of South Africa’s CWC clash with Indian tigers. The 23-year-old young cricketer injured himself during the match against Bangladesh at The Oval on Sunday. The right-arm fast bowler experienced a hamstring injury after the seventh over of the game. The incident forced the cricketer to walk off from the field as it was confirmed that he would not be able to continue in the game. Though, Ngidi gave 34 runs in his four overs in the match but was not able to take any wicket against the opponents.
The Faf du Plessis-led squad could rope-in Dale Steyn as the replacement of the player in their upcoming match against Indian opponents. Not only this, star batsman Hashim Amla will also join the squad in the most important match after back-to-back defeats. The 36-year-old Amla had been sidelined from the game followed by his painful shoulder injury but now he has recovered well and return back to his squad.
The team manager of South African squad Mohammed Moosajee confirmed the news by saying, “he was assessed and clinically we felt that he had a left hamstring strain. We decided not to let him go out there and bowl any further in this match”. However, it may take around a week to 10 days for Ngidi to get back on the field. After the full-diagnosed of the player, it is expecting that the young cricketer could join his side during the match against Windies June 10 at Rose Bowl Cricket Ground.
On the match front, South Africa failed to chase down the target of 331 runs against Bangladesh in the fifth match of ICC World Cup 2019. Earlier, the match which seemed to be in South Africa’s fist turned out completely different after the incredible partnership between legendary cricketers Mushfiqur Rahim and Shakib al Hasan. Both the players bagged a total of 142 runs together to lead their side to the successful victory.
Proteas are all set to take on Virat Kohli & Company on June 5 at Rose Bowl Cricket Ground.
