The very first semi-final battle of ICC World Cup 2019 proved costly for Indian fans as men in blue have been crashed out from the grand cricket tournament. This came after Team India faced a heartbreaking 18-run defeat against New Zealand at Old Trafford Cricket Ground on Wednesday.
Kiwis put up a good show on the second day of semifinal against India. Despite posting a paltry target of 239 runs for eight wickets in the first innings of the game, Williamson and team didn’t lose the hopes of winning the game against confident Indian fighters.
India got off a disastrous start as they lost their three crucial wickets in a row in just 3.1 overs. Three of the top Indian cricketers, Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, and Virat Kohli were knocked out after scoring single run apiece. This shattered the hopes of cricket fans. Though experienced all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja then held the helms and helped his team to cross at least 200-mark by smashing four jaw-dropping sixes. But he was also shocked by star Kiwi pacer Trent Boult after scoring remarkable 77 runs off 59 balls. It was then the backbone of the ‘Blues’, Dhoni who could save his side at last. Dhoni tried his best to keep fans’ expectations alive in the game but he also failed to drove India to victory.
Dhoni’s dismissal at 48.3 overs became the turning point in the game as after that New Zealand’s victory was completely confirmed in the semifinals. As a result, whole Indian squad bowled out at 221 runs when three balls still left in the game.
New Zealand’s right-handed batsman Ross Taylor shared his experience after taking the crucial wicket of MS Dhoni in the most important match of the season, “the run-out broke India’s heart I suppose because Dhoni has won the game from that situation many times. Once we got him, we were pretty confident of the result”. Further, he also added, “we are happy and proud to be in the final, regardless of who it is going to be between England and Australia”.
Even after Team India lost the semifinals and knocked out of ICC World Cup 2019, Indian Cricket fans didn’t stop supporting them and flooded the social media platforms with wholehearted gestures and comments. Since this was the last World Cup edition for legendary wicketkeeper-batsman MS Dhoni, fans lauded his efforts for Indian Cricket Team. Twitteratties also started the #ThankYouMSD trend to paid a heartfelt tribute to former captain cool Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
