Ace Indian gymnast Dipa Karmakar has finally made it to the finals of Artistic Gymnastics World Cup 2019 at Baku in Azerbaijan. Dipa who conquered the fourth position in Rio Olympics 2016 won a bronze medal in the qualifying round of World Cup.”It’s a good performance by Dipa. Let us hope that she stands on the podium after Saturday’s final and take one more step towards Olympic qualification,” said the Vice-President of Gymnastic Federation of India (GFI) Riyaz Bhati. The Indian Produnova performed higher difficulty Handfront 540 vault for the first time in a competition and despite this Dipa scored 14.466 and 14.133 points in two qualifying rounds of Vault with an average of 14.299.
The first position of the qualifying Vault round was secured by American star Jade Carey with an average score of 14.70 while Alexa Moreno of Mexico won the second berth with 14.533. The top eight finishers in the qualification round will take on each other in the finals on this Saturday. Dipa will participate in the balanced beam event before finals. She won bronze in Artistic Gymnastics World Cup 2018 at Cottbus, Germany which will act as a strong bid for her Olympic selection.

Earlier, Dipa had failed to perform in Asian Games 2018 at Jakarta because of the critical condition of her knee. She even missed the vault final at Asian Games and also pull out of team event. However, the gymnast from Agartala recovered on time keeping her hopes alive to win gold for the country in Tokyo Olympics 2020. The 25-year-old clinched gold at Artistic Gymnastics World Challenge Cup in Mersin, Turkey in July 2018. Dipa is now aiming to secure her berth for Tokyo Olympics 2020
