Ace Indian boxer Amit Panghal has added one more success to his account as the 23-year-old won second straight Gold Medal in Asian Boxing Championships. Claiming the gold in the finals of 52 kg Men’s category on Friday at Bangkok, the Indian boxing champion beats Kim Inkyu of Korea in a unanimous decision. Earlier, he clinched the gold in 2018 Asian games after defeating Olympic gold medallist and best boxer awardee Hasanboy Dusmatov. However, this was his maiden international competition since the star boxer has been moved to the category of 52 kg category from 49 kg category this year.
Panghal began the bout with his usual aggressiveness but later in the game he started attacking the opponent relentlessly which left no option for Inkyu except defeat. Earlier in February when he won the gold in Strandzha Cup at Sofia, he dedicated his medal to all the martyrs who lost their lives in brutal Pulwama attack. The triumph made him the only Indian male boxer to grab a gold in 2019 edition.
When it was all smile for Panghal, other national champion Deepak Singh (49 kg) has to settle for silver only as he lost his final match against Nodirjon Mirzahmedov of Uzbekistan. Though, Deepak started vigorously in the game but his straight punches in the ring were not enough to corner the star boxer and as a reason Mirzahmedov hit the right hooks easily. Moreover, the Indian was a clear winner in the opening round of the bout but Mirzahmedov came back with a bang in the second match and crashed the hopes of boxing champion to win the gold. Panghal made his boxing debut in 2017 and his first major success was that he won the gold medal at National Boxing Championships.
