The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) has recently suggested the names of brilliant Indian wrestlers who broke the ceilings with their ultimate talent for Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Awards 2019. The wrestlers including Vinesh Phogat and World Champion Bajrang Punia could be bestowed with the great honour this year. Apart from these two millennium superstars, the Federation has also recommended the names of Rahul Aware, Divya Kakran, Harpreet Singh and Pooja Dhanda for this year’s Arjuna Awards, while for Dronacharya awards WFI selected Virender Kumar, Narendra Kumar Sujeet Maan and last but not the least Vikram Kumar. Not only this, Wrestling Federation of India also suggested blazing wrestlers like Bheem Singh and Jai Prakash for 2019 Dhyan Chand awards.

The highest sporting honour of Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award has been given to those sports personalities who made some spectacular and outstanding performances in their respective field over a period of four years while Arjuna Award has been presented to those players who performed exceptionally in the past four years and also showcased the qualities of leadership, sportsmanship and a sense of discipline throughout his career stint.

Bajrang Punia is the best choice for this sporting honour as he is considered among one of the most accomplished wrestlers in India and also become the first Indian to wrestle in New York’s iconic fight night. The 25-year-old freestyle wrestler has recently clinched the gold medal in 2019 Asian Wrestling Championship at Xi’an, China.

Earlier in the passing weekend, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI)  recommended the names of Indian pacers for Arjuna Awards 2019. The Board has picked the names of Mohammad Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja and women’s team player Poonam Yadav for the prestigious honour.
