The Ajax Amsterdam has turned around the tables by defeating unbeatable champions Real Madrid in the Champions League. The holders were thrashed 4-1 at Santiago Bernabeu as Ajax took the revenge of loss in first-leg to reach the quarterfinals by 5-3 on aggregate. The winning team captain Matthijs de Ligt said, “we knew that it was possible to get a result. We always believed that if we could play our own game we could cause them problems”. Real Madrid have now nothing to play for after their back to back defeats. Earlier, arch-rivals Barcelona Knocked them out of Copa del Rey and ended their hopes to win LaLiga title. Real defender Dani Carvajal Criticise the defeat and said, “I think I have never felt this awful, I do not know how to explain it”.After lifting the Champions League trophy 13 times, Real eliminated from the tournament stage disgracefully. Real Madrid won Europe’s premier club competition consecutively three times including seasons 11th, 12th and 13th.

Santiago Solari oversaw an improvement after Julen Lopetegui dismissed in November but his team, 12 points behind Barcelona in La Liga, have witnessed their season twisted within a week.

At 3-0 in the league and 4-2 on aggregate the Spanish giants were needed three goals in less than an hour but on the 70th minute mark Asensio pulled one back and gave some hopes but Ajax were not in a mood to let Spaniards win and within two minutes they put the gap back to two goals as Thibaut Courtois was in a dreadful position after Lasse Schone’s free-kick floated over his head. This historical comeback of Ajax has paved their way to the finals in May.
