Santiago Solari oversaw an improvement after Julen Lopetegui dismissed in November but his team, 12 points behind Barcelona in La Liga, have witnessed their season twisted within a week.

At 3-0 in the league and 4-2 on aggregate the Spanish giants were needed three goals in less than an hour but on the 70th minute mark Asensio pulled one back and gave some hopes but Ajax were not in a mood to let Spaniards win and within two minutes they put the gap back to two goals as Thibaut Courtois was in a dreadful position after Lasse Schone’s free-kick floated over his head.
