Arsenal overcame their Austrian counterparts 2-1 with goals from veterans David Luiz and Aubameyang ensured a win for the Gunners.

The Reds looked sluggish in the first half but still managed to overcome Rapid Vienna in an unexpected “close game.” Vienna caused Arsenal’s backline a lot of problems. In the second half, the Austrians were rewarded after a sloppy pass from Arsenal’s shot-stopper gifted a goal to Fountas.

Fountas was one who looked dangerous going forward and also came close to scoring a second after another mistake by Bernd Leno gave the Greek to score a brace. But luckily, he was closed down before taking a wayward shot.

To the delight of Arsenal fans, the Gunners improved after conceding and looked the more threatening side in the second half. Arteta, after his side conceded first, subbed off Cedric and Nketiah and brought on Hector Bellerin and Aubameyang. It paid dividends as Aubameyang scored a beautiful team goal which was assisted by Bellerin after David Luiz equalized through Pepe’s freekick.

The Gunners now sit at the top of the table and host Dundalk FC for next weekend’s clash at the Emirates.
